Acts 2:42 Back to the Basics

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ [a]doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts 2:42

I love it when I do my daily devotions and the Holy Spirit directs me to scriptures to confirm (or deny) something I experienced within the last 24 hours or so. Yesterday, someone asked me what was a good devotional for a friend. A friend who had a 'relationship heartbreak' and wanted to pray but said they didn't know how. Someone raised in the faith, but who hadn't been walking with the LORD, in a long time. Someone not going to church, but needed to get back. As often is the case, this wasn't the first time. Like many of us who drift or walk or run from God, it takes a hardship, trial or tragedy to cause us to seek Him again and again. Whether for our own selfish motives or not, returning is always a good thing. Heeding God's call to  repent and seek Him is the right thing. Staying in His will, obeying his commands and learning to love Him with all my heart, soul, mind and strength, not so easy, always desirable and with Him, always possible.

Now, I have a ton of devotional books, but what did I suggest? Oh, a few ran through my head. But before speaking (a rarity for me), I thought a minute. I said, "The Bible. Tell them to start reading their  Bible. Start with Psalms or Proverbs, or a favorite book of the bible. Just start reading" I gave suggestions of my various methods over the years, always going back to the pure Word of God as the primary and most effective, most important, inspiring and encouraging source for devotionals. Of course.

This morning, I read my daily bible reading and then I turned to a devotional. Ironically, I turned to an old devotional that I haven't read in ages. The title for the day, "BACK TO THE BASICS". Acts 2:42 was referenced and the devotional encouraged us to:

1.  Learn from the bible/pastor's teachings - Teaching
2. Hang out with other Christians - Fellowship
3. Take Communion  - Breaking bread
4. Pray

I love it when God does that for me, confirmation through His Word. Get back to the basics, Get back to my Bible, get back to learning from a good teacher/pastor, fellowship with other believers, take communion and pray. Get back to God. Get back to loving Him....He loves you so much!

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness  2 Tim 3:16
